Update: Mesquite woman fatally shot husband, adult ... - Crime Blog

Friends say Paulina Vazquez was home on spring break from the University of North Texas, and her brother Alejandro attended nearby Eastfield College.

Update at 4:25 p.m.: Authorities believe a 43-year-old Mesquite woman fatally shot her husband and their two adult children before killing herself, police said.

The death of Angelica Vazquez, 43, the wife of Marcelo Vazquez, and the mother of Alejandro and Paulina Vazquez, was ruled a suicide by the Dallas County medical examiner?s office. A handgun was found on the floor in the master bedroom near her body, Mesquite police said.

The deaths of Marcelo Vazquez, 44, and his son, 18 year-old Alejandro Vazquez, and daughter, 21 year-old Paulina Vazquez, were ruled homicides, police said.

?Detectives are still investigating to determine a motive for this crime,? Mesquite Lt. Bill Hedgpeth said in an emailed statement

Original post at 12:53 p.m.: The Dallas County medical examiner has formally identified three of the four people found dead inside a Mesquite home on Wednesday in an apparent murder-suicide.

They are: Marcelo Vazquez, 44, Alejandro Vazquez, 18, and Paulina Vazquez, 21. It is believed that Marcelo Vazquez is the father of the two younger adults. It is believed their 43-year-old mother also lived at the home.

The medical examiner would not release information on the cause and manner of death for any of them.

Mesquite police said they are continuing to piece together what happened inside the home.

?They?re just doing some follow-up, just trying to figure out the sequence,? Mesquite police Lt. Bill Hedgpeth said.

The four people were found dead in the house in the 1400 block of Paintbrush Street Wednesday, four days after a 911 caller reported hearing gunfire at that address, police said.

Police have said that a handgun was found near one of the bodies and that they were not looking for a suspect.

Friends and neighbors said Wednesday that the father who lived in the house drove a big rig for a living and the mother worked in a school.

They said the son, a recent graduate of Mesquite High School, attended nearby Eastfield College. The daughter was home on spring break from the University of North Texas in Denton.
